# “The Call Light is My Calling”: One Nurse’s Inspiration

Charge nurse Williamson Roasa found his calling at Sutter's Eden Medical Center and now stars in Sutter Health's new employee ad campaign this fall.

It’s a good idea to listen to your mom –after all, the adage goes, mom knows best. And while that might not be true in _everyone’s_ case, for registered nurse Williamson Roasa, listening to his mom’s advice certainly proved to be the smart move.

As a young man growing up in the Philippines, Roasa’s mom told him she thought his becoming a nurse would be an excellent career choice because of his naturally caring nature and aptitude for science. Young Roasa took her advice to heart, entered nursing school in Manila, studied hard, moved to the U.S. in 2010, and passed the nursing licensure exam on the first try.

Flash forward. Today, Roasa is a charge nurse in the telemetry unit at Sutter’s Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where he’s worked for the past seven years. A telemetry unit is home to patients who require constant monitoring of their health condition and vital signs, which may include people with conditions such as severe heart disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Asked why being a nurse at Sutter is so rewarding for him, Roasa responds that working as a nurse is a challenging career and that “the call light is my calling.” Best of all, he knows that he is “making a good difference in someone’s life every day.”

**Answering Another Call**

Roasa recently answered a casting call by Sutter Health for employees and affiliated physicians to audition for roles in the non-profit integrated network’s fall 2022 advertising campaign. He enthusiastically threw his hat in the ring and was selected for a featured role from among hundreds of colleagues who applied.
