Sutter Health Receives $12 Million Gift from Kevin Kranzusch and Lynne Bosworth to Drive Innovation in Transplant Care at CPMC

SAN FRANCISCO – Sutter Health is thrilled to announce a $12 million gift from Kevin Kranzusch and Lynne Bosworth to advance transplant care at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) and beyond. This major philanthropic investment will establish two endowed chairs and fund critical developments across transplant medicine and hepatology.

“Kevin and Lynne’s generous commitment is deeply personal, inspiring and will enable us to significantly expand our capabilities to improve transplant patient care and outcomes,” said Dr. Robert Osorio, chair of CPMC’s Advanced Organ Therapies Department. “Their lived experience and passion for advancing the future of transplant medicine make them the ideal partners in this journey. Together, we’re setting new standards in innovation and collaboration that will benefit not only patients at CPMC and in the Bay Area, but patients everywhere.”

The Kranzusch-Bosworth Chairs for Innovation in Transplant will be held by Sutter specialists, Dr. Casey Ward, an abdominal transplant surgeon, and Dr. Jennifer Guy, a transplant hepatologist. Together, they will drive forward pioneering approaches in transplant care, from developing new clinical protocols to advancing research. Their gift will also empower CPMC’s Department of Transplant to address long-standing challenges, such as organ scarcity, with innovative methods like machine perfusion and Normothermic Regional Perfusion. This investment will also expand services in transplant oncology and living donor liver transplants, while enhancing the patient experience. In partnership with Sutter’s Chief Digital Officer, Laura Wilt, Drs. Ward and Guy will work to create a seamless, comprehensive digital experience that combines the latest technologies with compassionate care. As Wilt notes, “We’re ushering in a new era of transplant care, where digital innovation transforms every step of the journey. With cutting-edge technology, we’re elevating the patient experience, improving outcomes and redefining what’s possible in life-saving care.”

“Innovation saved my life, and we want these life-saving advancements to reach more patients, faster,” said Kevin Kranzusch, a vice president at NVIDIA, who experienced his own liver transplant at CPMC. “Led by Dr. Ward and Dr. Guy, along with their talented team, CPMC has a unique opportunity to transform transplant medicine – turning potential into practice, accelerating progress and addressing the urgent needs we all believe in. This is an investment in our shared future, and we’re excited to serve as a catalyst for driving this vision forward.”

“This generous gift underscores the vital role philanthropy plays in advancing groundbreaking healthcare,” said Raya Elias-Petros, chief philanthropy officer at Sutter Health. “By aligning visionary donors like Kevin and Lynne with the ingenuity of our care teams, we’re not only expanding the frontiers of transplant medicine but also shaping a future where innovation transforms lives for countless patients and families.”

Sutter Health is a leading destination for transplant care, with CPMC’s Advanced Organ Therapies and Transplant Services Program in San Francisco offering comprehensive treatment for heart, kidney, liver, lung, pancreas and complex GI conditions. Interdisciplinary teams at CPMC and across Sutter collaborate with outreach centers throughout Northern California to serve nearly 30,000 patients annually.
