Good health begins with knowledge, prevention and taking the first step.
Sutter Health’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center and the Bay Area Community Health Advisory Council (BACHAC) will again welcome community members to the annual Men’s and Women’s Health Fair, an event designed to make preventive care more accessible and empower individuals and families with information they need to live healthier lives.
For more than two decades, the event has served as a trusted community resource. What began as a men’s health fair focused primarily on prostate cancer awareness has grown into a comprehensive event offering valuable screenings, education and wellness resources for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Attendees will have access to free health screenings, including prostate cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis screenings, mammograms, blood pressure checks and other preventive services.
Community partners and health care experts will also be available throughout the event to answer questions, provide educational resources and connect attendees with ongoing care and support.
Educational sessions led by Sutter physicians will cover important health topics such as prostate and breast cancer prevention, menopause, diabetes management and other issues affecting men and women. The fair is designed to create a welcoming, comfortable environment where community members can engage directly with trusted health care professionals and learn how small steps today can lead to healthier tomorrows.
“We wanted to bring our physicians and health care professionals to the community in an environment that’s comfortable,” said Dr. Dieter Bruno, chief medical executive at Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. “Sometimes it’s hard for people to access care during the week. This gives them the opportunity to get screened, ask questions and build relationships that support their health long term.”
For Agelica Zamora, attending the fair was an investment in herself and her family’s future.
Born in Mexico and now a high school employee, volunteer and mother of two daughters, Zamora has seen firsthand the importance of preventive health care. Her father died from complications related to prostate cancer, and her mother lives with diabetes. Although she considers herself healthy, she also manages high blood pressure, making preventive screenings especially meaningful.
After learning about the fair through community organizations and flyers, Zamora decided to attend the event in 2025. During the event, she received a mammogram, blood pressure screening, lab tests and a bone density evaluation.
“I learned that early detection of any disease helps people begin treatment sooner and improves quality of life,” Zamora said. “Preventive screenings help us manage illnesses before they become more serious.”
She hopes others will take advantage of the opportunity.
“Attending the fair wasn’t an obligation. It was a gift we gave ourselves to ensure a healthier future,” Zamora said. “Don’t miss this opportunity. Join us, take care of yourself and your loved ones, and remember that early detection can make all the difference.”
BACHAC Executive Director Lisa Tealer said the event’s collaborative approach makes it impactful.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for the community,” Tealer said. “By bringing resources, screenings and healthcare professionals together in one place, people can learn, ask questions and walk away informed and empowered.”
