Sutter Hospitals Receive High Marks in Patient Safety

Three Sutter hospitals today received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit focused on patient safety. An additional eight hospital campuses in Sutter Health’s not-for-profit system earned a “B” grade for prioritizing patient safety and helping protect patients from preventable harm and errors.

“Delivering safe, equitable and high-quality patient care is the central focus of what we do every day across our Sutter network.” said William Isenberg, M.D., Ph.D., Sutter’s chief medical and quality officer. “These safety grades from The Leapfrog Group recognize the dedication and collaboration of our network’s doctors, nurses, clinicians and employees to provide patients with exceptional care across the communities we serve.”

Sutter hospitals earning an “A” grade include:

  • Sutter Mills-Peninsula Medical Center
  • Sutter Novato Community Hospital
  • Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital

Sutter hospitals earning a “B” grade include:

  • Sutter Amador Hospital
  • Sutter California Pacific Medical Center – Mission Bernal campus
  • Sutter California Pacific Medical Center – Van Ness campus
  • Sutter Davis Hospital
  • Sutter Eden Medical Center
  • Sutter Roseville Medical Center
  • Sutter Solano Medical Center
  • Sutter Tracy Community Hospital

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm, errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
