YUBA CITY, Calif. – Sutter Surgical Hospital North Valley (SSHNV) has been ranked in the top 1% of Best Hospitals for Orthopedics in the United States by the Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals™.
The Women’s Choice Award is an American marketing research company which conducts research and national surveys exclusively about and for women. To be awarded the coveted credential of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics, the hospital must provide comprehensive orthopedic services, such as arthroscopy, joint replacements and spine surgery services, as well as offering onsite MRI and physical therapy.
These hospitals are then judged based on their results through the Hospital Consumer Assessment for Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey for patient recommendations and post-operative recovery instructions – measures that are very important to women when choosing a hospital. Both recommendations and recovery ratings must be equal or above the national average in order to qualify (72% and 87% respectively).
Apart from being a comprehensive orthopedic facility and having high patient satisfaction recommendations, the most important criterion for winning the Women’s Choice Award is the quality of the hospital’s clinical services. Award recipients are carefully evaluated for high recovery ratings and good surgical event scores, including a low incidence of surgical complications and infections.
“We’re deeply honored by this ranking from the Women’s Choice Award,” says Dennis Sindelar, Regional Director, Sutter Surgery Center Division. “It’s extremely gratifying for our hardworking staff to be publicly recognized for their high level of care and commitment to our patients’ health and well-being by the women of America.”
Since opening in 2009, SSHNV has earned many hospital industry awards, including honors and recognition from Voluntary Hospitals of America West Coast and five-star ratings for patient satisfaction from HCAHPS. SSHNV has also been the recipient of Healthgrades’ Joint Replacement Excellence Award.
Help for People with Arthritis
“Receiving top marks for our orthopedic practice from the Women’s Choice Award seems particularly timely right now because May is Arthritis Awareness Month,” said Sindelar. “A major focus for our orthopedic team is helping people who are struggling with chronic pain in their hips, knees and shoulders from osteoarthritis.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control, about one in four (54 million) adults have arthritis. More than half of arthritic adults are of working age between the ages of 18-64. The number of people in the U.S. limited by arthritis has increased by about 20% since 2002.
Advanced Robotic Technology
For many arthritis patients, Mako® robotic-arm assisted advanced joint replacement can help with their chronic pain. SSHNV is the only hospital in the Yuba-Sutter area – and one of a small number of hospitals in Northern California – to offer Mako robotic-arm assisted technology.
“The robotic arm doesn’t actually perform surgery,” Sindelar explains. “Your orthopedic surgeon is still the skilled doctor controlling the robotic arm. But the system helps the doctor perform a more precise and personalized joint replacement, which can result in less pain and a shorter recovery time.”
