Are you brave enough to bring back a ’stache for the month of November? If so, you will be among an increasing number of men who are raising awareness of men’s health issues by growing the stylish facial feature.

Movember is an annual event involving growing moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.

“Raising awareness for men’s health issues—such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide prevention—is essential for long-term health,” said Dr. Ori Melamud, Urologist, Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. “We are proud to support these critical efforts during Movember and beyond.”

Sutter Health is doing its part to treat prostate cancer and several of its care centers were recognized by Healthgrades when the organization announced its latest round of specialty care awards, including men’s health. This was the first year that Healthgrades incorporated prostate care into its recognitions.

• Sutter’s commitment extends beyond practice into community engagement and stigma reduction. Through partnerships with organizations like the Lotus Behavioral Health Crisis Center, critical support is provided in community-based settings—serving as a voluntary urgent care hub for mental health services.
• Sutter is working toward the Zero Suicide framework, a targeted approach to suicide prevention that includes using evidence-based tools and best practices for screening, treatment, safety planning and post-discharge follow-up.
• To bolster safety measures, Sutter implemented ObservSMART, a state-of-the-art platform for performing patient safety checks. The tool offers a proximity-based, watch-like wearable that ensures precise and timely safety checks at all in-patient behavioral health facilities. This advancement builds on established safety protocols, providing a secure environment essential for those at risk of self-harm, falls or injury.
