New facility to expand access to care close to home for growing Elk Grove community

NORTHERN CALIF. – Sutter Health broke ground today on a new care center that will expand access to specialty care for residents of Elk Grove and surrounding communities. The new facility will offer services in cardiology, neurology, general surgery, OB-Gyn, urology and other services.

The 56,000-square-foot, two-story care center will be located on the Sutter Elk Grove Campus on Laguna Boulevard. The $67.8 million investment will bring 22 additional physicians to the community. Construction begins in May and is slated for completion in fall 2026.

“Today’s groundbreaking is another notable milestone in our systemwide strategy to expand access and better serve our patients and communities with connected and convenient care,” said Warner Thomas, President and CEO of Sutter Health. “Just this week, we announced plans to grow orthopedic specialty care in the region—another example of our commitment to world-class care close to home. We’re proud to be expanding access to top-tier specialists in cardiology, neurology, urology and women’s health for the residents of Elk Grove and surrounding communities.”

The 22 new clinicians will join 11 existing physicians already practicing on the Sutter Elk Grove Campus. Today, the site is home to a growing hub of integrated care. Patients currently have access to a wide range of services, including primary care, orthopedics, surgical, podiatry, women’s services, urology and reconstructive plastic surgery, in addition to urgent care and an ambulatory surgery center. When the newest care center opens, it will further strengthen the campus with expanded specialty clinics in:

  • Cardiology
  • Dermatology & Mohs Surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • General Surgery
  • Neurology
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Orthopedics
  • Physical Medicine & Rehab
  • Urology

“We are creating a comprehensive healthcare destination–ensuring residents can access advanced specialty services right in their community,” said Rachael McKinney, Sutter Health’s Greater Sacramento Division president. “This is just the latest example of Sutter Health’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of this region and advancing our bold vision in the Greater Sacramento Division to serve 1 million patients across the greater Sacramento region by 2030.”

In the greater Sacramento region, Sutter is building care centers in some of the fastest-growing cities in the state. The City of Elk Grove, with a population of nearly 200,000, has grown rapidly in the past 20 years and at one time was the fastest-growing city in the United States. In addition, Sutter is expanding access to primary and specialty care in the communities of Folsom and Roseville, as well as the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento.

With the addition of more specialty physicians to the campus, the goal is to provide additional access to surgical procedures.

“This expansion represents a significant step forward in our commitment to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of this growing community,” said Sutter Medical Group President and CEO Dr. Michael Conroy. “Along with the surgery center, lab, imaging and other ancillary services, we are creating a true ‘one-stop-shop’ for comprehensive healthcare needs, enhancing convenience and coordination of care for the Elk Grove community.”

The Elk Grove Care Center is the latest example of Sutter Health’s commitment to expanding access to care. The health system is on pace to open dozens of new care centers across Northern California by 2027. With new facilities and services strategically located, the aim is to increase access to primary and specialty care doctors, reduce travel times for patients and provide timely access to essential healthcare services.

“This investment by Sutter Health is a vital step forward in bringing high-quality, specialized healthcare directly to the heart of southern Sacramento County. As Elk Grove and its neighboring communities continue to grow, so too must our ability to meet the health needs of our residents,” said Congresswoman Doris Matsui, who represents the 7th Congressional District.  “With expanded access to specialty services like cardiology, neurology and women’s health, this new care center will not only strengthen the region’s healthcare infrastructure — it will make care more convenient and responsive for families across our district. I applaud Sutter Health’s commitment to ensuring that no one has to travel far to get the expert care they deserve.”
