Thousands of runners from around the world filled Golden Gate Park on Feb. 1 for the 42nd San Francisco Half Marathon, marking a milestone year as Sutter Health served as the presenting sponsor for the first time. The multi-year partnership highlights a shared commitment to community wellness, active lifestyles and charitable giving across the Bay Area.

Hosted by the Pamakid Runners club, the event once again delivered a high-energy race day, with more than 8,500 participants competing in the Half Marathon, 10K and 5K. Each course began and ended in Golden Gate Park, guiding runners past Ocean Beach, the historic windmills and the Panhandle—just steps from Sutter Health’s Castro Street campus.

“From Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach and through some of the most iconic neighborhoods in the city, today’s course reflected the heart and energy of San Francisco,” said Christina Oh, president of Sutter’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay Division. “Our Sutter teams came out to cheer everyone on and keep everyone safe every step of the way. This is what community, commitment and determination looks like.”

As presenting sponsor and the official medical and health partner, Sutter Health played a central role throughout the day. Medical teams were stationed along the course to provide support, hydration and health resources, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to whole-person health and participant safety.

“I really enjoyed the scenery,” said Calvin, a race participant from Oregon. “The energy of the people was incredible. What an experience.”

The event also continued its long-standing tradition of giving back to the community, raising more than $100,000 each year for local nonprofits. Organizers emphasized that the race is not only a test of endurance, but a celebration of resilience, connection and purpose.

Sutter Health’s involvement reflects its deep roots in San Francisco, where California Pacific Medical Center has served the community since the 1850s. With hospitals, clinics and thousands of employees throughout the city, the organization’s first year as presenting sponsor underscored its role as a trusted healthcare leader and community partner.

The 2026 San Francisco Half Marathon stood as a powerful reminder of how movement, health and community can come together to create an unforgettable race day.
