Sutter Health leaders, colleagues, and elected officials gathered Sept. 17 to celebrate the opening of the new Pleasanton Care Complex, an important milestone in Sutter Health’s commitment to expand access to care in the Tri-Valley area. The celebration recognized the many people whose vision, expertise and collaboration helped transform this project from an idea into a welcoming place for care.
The 64,000-square-foot facility was designed around the needs of patients and their families, bringing a range of medical specialties together under one roof. Services include orthopedics, podiatry, physiatry, ophthalmology and optometry, audiology, urology, ear, nose and throat care, gastroenterology, and general surgery, along with laboratory and imaging services. Patient care began Monday, Sept. 21, with an ambulatory surgery center expected to open in January 2027.
“Today marks another key step forward in expanding access to comprehensive, high-quality care in the Tri-Valley area,” said Kevin Cook, president of Sutter Health’s Greater Silicon Valley Division. “The Pleasanton Care Complex represents Sutter’s commitment to bringing more services closer to where our patients live and work.”
He thanked the operations, facilities and planning teams who made the Pleasanton Care Complex reality, as well as the providers and care teams who will deliver compassionate, coordinated care to Pleasanton and surrounding communities.
“We want to provide the best, most comprehensive, and personalized care for our patients,” said Dr. Kurt VandeVort, CEO of Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group.

Dr. Mat Hernandez, chief medical officer for Sutter Health’s Greater Silicon Valley Division, highlighted how the new complex supports a broader strategy to expand capacity and improve access throughout the region.
“By building the right care in the right locations, we are making it easier for patients to receive care where they need it, when they need it,” said Hernandez. “We are so excited to welcome patients, caregivers and community members to this new chapter of care in Pleasanton.”
Community leaders also joined the celebration and welcomed the investment. David Haubert, Alameda County supervisor, highlighted the complex’s importance to the health and well-being of local families, as well as its support for local jobs and long-term economic vitality. Julie Testa, a Pleasanton city councilmember, noted that bringing multiple specialties together will make care more convenient, connected and accessible throughout the Tri-Valley area.
Sutter Health has a growing presence in the region. In July, teams opened the nearby Pleasanton Care Center at 5075 Hopyard Road, offering physical therapy, advanced imaging and full-service pediatric urgent care. Together, these investments are expanding access closer to where people live and work.
