Well, this certainly makes planning a birthday much easier.

Sutter’s Eden Medical Center Birth Center delivered a special birthday present to Castro Valley, Calif., residents Laila Mossadak and her husband, Akbar Moinuddin—a healthy baby boy named Zaid.

Zaid, the couple’s first child, was born at 2:21 a.m. on June 17—joining Mom and Dad just in time for their joint birthday.

That’s right. This family of three shares the same birthday.

As Tina Simmons, Birth Center director, explains it, “When the nurse went to round on the patient, the family said, ‘We all have the same birthday!’ It doesn’t happen every day that three people in the same family share the same birthday!”

Moinuddin joked that they didn’t plan it nine months prior—the timing was just a happy coincidence.

“My wife was due to deliver on June 16, but she went into labor on the 16th, and he was born on the 17th,” Moinuddin said.

The couple have plenty of family to celebrate the happy news. Mossadak’s mom lives with them and Moinuddin’s parents live just down the road in Fremont, Calif. They also have family across the U.S. and in the U.K.

“It’s been an interesting detail on top of a happy occasion,” Moinuddin says of the timing.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions have lifted, the couple held a celebration with their families. Moinuddin adds they thought about doing three cakes to mark the occasion but decided that would be a little too much, “So we just did one big cake.”

Happy birthday to the proud parents and newest addition, Zaid.
