Sutter Health announced the appointment of Dr. Deryk Jones as the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Service Line Chair, effective August 1, 2025. In this role, Dr. Jones will serve as a physician dyad partner to Keegan Kirby, Sutter Health Vice President of the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Service Line, helping to advance clinical excellence, research, and innovation across the organization.
A highly respected orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Jones brings two decades of experience from Ochsner Clinic Foundation and its Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, where he has been a trusted clinician, innovative leader, and accomplished researcher. His leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping strategy, clinical programming, capital planning, and quality initiatives within Sutter Health’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Service Line. He will also work closely with a team of Section Chiefs to oversee a Clinical Council dedicated to advancing orthopedic care.

Dr. Jones has an impressive background in sports medicine, having served as the head team physician for the New Orleans Saints from 2006-2017, earning a Super Bowl ring for his role in the team’s historic championship season. He currently serves as a team physician for the New Orleans Pelicans and provides care to numerous collegiate and high school athletes. He has also built a world class team of Athletic Trainers working with high school and collegiate athletes across Louisiana. Throughout his career, he has remained at the forefront of orthopedic advancements, pioneering treatment techniques and publishing extensively on outcomes research related to joint preservation and biologic therapies.

Dr. Jones is board-certified in orthopedic surgery with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University, completed his orthopedic training through the Harvard Combined Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, and pursued a fellowship in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He holds academic appointments at Tulane University and the University of Queensland, Australia.
