Dr. Michael Conroy, president and CEO of Sutter Medical Group, has been named one of the Sacramento Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs for 2026, an award recognizing executives whose leadership, vision and impact are shaping the Greater Sacramento region.

Dr. Conroy’s leadership is defined by his ability to balance the urgent demands of today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment with a clear, long-term vision for the future. As CEO of Sutter Medical Group, he oversees more than 1,600 clinicians caring for patients across the Greater Sacramento region. Under his leadership, Sutter Medical Group has experienced significant growth, hiring more than 200 new clinicians in 2025 alone and advancing new outpatient clinics, urgent care centers and expansions in communities including Elk Grove, Folsom, Roseville, Arden-Arcade and Rocklin.
A practicing internal medicine physician, Dr. Conroy brings a clinician’s perspective to every leadership decision. His continued care of patients — including in the rural community of Winters — ensures his leadership remains grounded in real-world experience and the everyday challenges facing both patients and care teams.
Dr. Conroy also plays a prominent role in shaping healthcare policy beyond the Sacramento region. He serves on the Boards of Trustees for America’s Physician Groups and the American Medical Group Association’s CEO Council, and has been the executive sponsor for Sutter Medical Group’s Advocacy Committee. He also recently transitioned off the California Medical Association Board of Trustees after six years of service. Through this work, Dr. Conroy partners with clinicians, policymakers and advocates to advance healthcare policy solutions at both the state and national levels.
