If you want to see the future of medicine, you will catch a glimpse of it inside the new Modesto Sylvan Care Center. It is the physician residency training site that will expand access to primary care and help shape the next generation of healthcare in the Central Valley.

The clinic officially opens to patients June 16 and will serve as the home for physicians in both the nationally accredited internal medicine and family medicine residency programs, a first for Sutter Health in the area. Physician residents will also train at Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center.

The new center features 38 spacious exam rooms and the capacity to care for more than 300 patients a day once fully ramped up. Doctors will offer pregnancy and postpartum care, as well as care for infants. The clinic will also make walk-in appointments available for pediatric visits, family planning and STI screening, and for pregnant patients seeking convenient, timely care.

Designed with both patients and medical learners in mind, the clinic includes natural light, local artwork and embedded technology such as observation cameras that allow faculty to review resident-patient interactions and provide coaching in real time.

“This is one example of how we’re putting our strategy into action—expanding access, supporting our teams and training the next generation, all at the same time,” said Amber Campbell, CEO of Ambulatory Operations for Sutter Health’s Greater Central Valley. “It’s not just about buildings—it’s about creating care environments that support excellence and set a new standard for the future.”

“Sutter Memorial is proud to have brought the residency programs to Modesto and to create an environment where residents learn both inpatient and outpatient care,” added Tracy Roman, CEO of Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center. “We’re showing them what a coordinated and comprehensive healthcare environment looks like—and it will set the bar for what they seek as practicing physicians.”

And as the care center has an eye toward enhancing healthcare of the future, it also is built upon a longstanding philanthropic legacy. For more than two decades, CT Brayton & Sons, Inc. has helped shape the Greater Central Valley’s healthcare landscape. Robert and Linda Brayton’s latest gift now will also the physician residents of Sutter’s Graduate Medical Education at the care center.

Memorial Hospital Foundation announced the generous gift from Robert and Linda Brayton and CT Brayton & Sons, Inc. during the center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. It simultaneously unveiled the Robert and Linda Brayton Waiting Room, named in their honor.

“We are proud to invest in the education and medical training of the physician residents who will care for our communities for generations to come,” said Robert Brayton. “This gift is not just about honoring the past—it’s about building a legacy of health and hope for the future.”
