Local doctors keep Google Glass technology alive

Despite the anticipation that hailed it in, Google Glass all but went down in flames after its 2013 debut. Within doctor’s offices and operating rooms, however, physicians are keeping remnants of the technology alive.

Its No. 1 use? Electronic health records.

Federal mandates took effect in 2015 requiring doctors to put all health records into a detailed electronic system. In the initial months under the mandate, Dr. Tyler Smith, founder of the Sierra Spine Institute in Roseville, constantly fell behind on his charts and spent hours after the work day punching in records and generally feeling “cranky.”
