Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center (Mills-Peninsula) has earned designation as a Joint Commission Accredited Comprehensive Cardiac Center. With this rare and distinguished recognition, MPMC becomes only the 25th facility in the nation — and just the 5th in California — to receive this prestigious status.

“This achievement recognizes every member of our staff and the patients we serve,” said Mills-Peninsula CEO Darian Harris. “It takes a true system of excellence to deliver life-saving care — from prevention, to the first signs of symptoms, through hospitalization, and into recovery with our outpatient support.”

The Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Cardiac Center designation is awarded to hospitals that serve as complete hubs for cardiac care, offering services across the entire continuum for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. Led by Anna Choi, director of cardiovascular, orthopedics, and neuro services at Mills Peninsula, this recognition signals to patients, families, and communities that they can expect coordinated, high-quality care — from prevention and early detection to intervention, rehabilitation, and long-term support.

Leaders at Mills-Peninsula emphasized that this recognition is not just about advanced technology and procedures — it’s about the people who make excellence possible. Celebrating Excellence Graphic

“This designation is a testament to the compassion, skill, and commitment our staff brings to every patient, every day,” said Jill Thomas, vice president of operations at Mills-Peninsula. “It highlights the teamwork across every discipline that allows us to provide world-class cardiac care close to home.”

Mills-Peninsula’s designation underscores its role not just as a hospital, but as a comprehensive cardiac center of excellence.

“To be recognized as one of only 25 centers nationwide speaks to the extraordinary level of quality, safety, and patient-centered care that defines Mills-Peninsula,” Harris added. “This recognition reflects who we are and the values that drive us forward.”

This milestone demonstrates what’s possible when teamwork, expertise, and compassion align. For patients and their families, it reaffirms that MPMC is a place where hearts are in the very best hands.
