This week the Student National Medical Association hosts its premier event, the Annual Medical Education Conference, held annually and recognized as one of the nation’s largest medical education meetings.

With Sutter as its leading sponsor, AMEC provides a valuable forum to strengthen the system’s medical education programs by offering residents and future physicians exposure to meaningful discussions and panels. The event program is centered around purpose and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality care for diverse populations.

“Our partnership with SNMA underscores Sutter’s commitment to medical education, mentorship and expanding the pathway of future physicians, helping increase access to care for the communities we serve,” says Dr. Dineen Greer, vice president of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official.  “We are not just enriching the medical field with top talent—we’re ensuring patients receive compassionate care that acknowledges their unique backgrounds and needs.”

Immersive Training Opportunities and Hands-On Learning

Sutter medical education faculty, residency program directors, graduate medical education leaders and current residents are attending AMEC this week, speaking in panels and participating in hands-on workshops and networking events.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to connect with current and aspiring physicians who are passionate about advancing clinical excellence and care for underserved communities,” says Dr. Abiolah Telesford, a second-year internal medicine resident at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. “AMEC 2025 represents a space where I can be inspired by leaders who share my values. I hope to take away not only knowledge and mentorship, but also a renewed sense of purpose and community.”

“As educators, we recognize the importance of providing students networking experiences and investments in their career growth. All with the aim to offer impactful opportunities that may shape their understanding of medicine and position them to deliver highly specialized care in both rural and urban settings,” explains Dr. Greer.

Shaping the Future of Medicine and Education

Events like AMEC play a vital role in shaping the future of health care by promoting medical education, compassion and leadership. Sutter remains focused on creating learning environments that encourage curiosity, innovation and community-focused care.

“I hope the connections I make at the event foster lasting relationships that enrich our residency community and the care we provide our patients,” says Dr. Ryan Flores, first-year internal medicine at Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center.

“As we continue this journey to enrich the medical field with experiential learning focused on patient-centered care, we remain dedicated to supporting initiatives like AMEC that promote inclusion, excellence and curiosity—values that not only define our organization but are fundamental to fulfilling our commitment to the patients and communities we serve,” says Dr. Greer.
