Statement on Sutter Health Bond Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) Grant Funding Awards from President & CEO Warner L. Thomas

“The Bond BHCIP funding awards are a critical step forward in addressing California’s growing mental health needs. The grant awards Sutter Health received in this round of funding will help accelerate the important and innovative work we have underway across Northern California to expand access to innovative care and build a more connected behavioral health system.

This funding supports our broader systemwide strategy to increase access to behavioral health care by expanding inpatient treatment capacity, improving crisis response, and strengthening care coordination. At the same time, we continue to invest in outpatient and community-based services—work that complements these projects and helps connect patients to care earlier and outside of emergency settings.

We’re grateful to Governor Newsom and the California Department of Health Care Services for their bold leadership and partnership, and we’re proud to be part of this statewide effort to improve behavioral health outcomes for patients, families, and communities.”

More on Sutter Health’s Commitment: Sutter Health, a not-for-profit integrated health system serving Northern California and the Central Coast, has long prioritized expanding access to behavioral health care – integrating services, increasing capacity, and investing in the people and programs that support patients across the continuum of care.

In line with this commitment, Sutter has been awarded $23 million in Bond BHCIP funding to support key behavioral health infrastructure projects across Northern California, including at Sutter Coast Hospital and Sutter Center for Psychiatry. This public investment aligns with Sutter’s broader strategy to increase treatment capacity, improve care coordination, and deliver services closer to where patients live and work.
