SAN FRANCISCO – Not-for-profit Sutter Health today announced the opening of a new, expanded cancer infusion center at its CPMC Pacific Heights Outpatient Center (2333 Buchanan Street) and the integration of Pacific Hematology-Oncology Associates (PHOA) to its network. Together, these investments reinforce Sutter’s long-term commitment to delivering seamless, high-quality cancer care to patients throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area. As part of the practice integration, PHOA physicians Ari Baron, Caroline Behler and Bertrand Tuan join Sutter West Bay Medical Group, broadening access to coordinated, comprehensive care alongside existing medical oncology and hematology physicians Stephanie JeskeGauri Kelekar and Lin Wang, as well as neuro-oncologist Dr. Akanksha Sharma.

Care is supported by Sutter’s experienced oncology caregivers, nurse navigators, pharmacists and system resources. The center includes 24 infusion chairs and two cold cap rooms for scalp cooling therapy, which can help minimize hair loss. Currently, the facility treats more than 50 patients daily and is designed to accommodate future growth as patient needs increase.

“San Francisco has one of the highest cancer incidences in Northern California, driven by a dense population and aging demographics,” said Christina Oh, president of Sutter Health’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay division. “With the opening of this new and larger infusion center and the integration of Pacific Hematology-Oncology Associates, we’re expanding access to advanced cancer care for more people across the city, Marin, the Peninsula and East Bay.”

Known for its dedication to clinical research, education and personalized care, PHOA’s board-certified physicians and support staff, including its triage nurses who manage complex testing and treatment logistics, remain in place to help ensure continuity and maintain trusted patient-physician relationships.

“Joining Sutter allows us to take our cancer care to the next level,” said Dr. Ari Baron. “After years at CPMC Pacific Heights Campus, we’ve built strong relationships with our patients and the community. Now, we can build on that foundation, continuing the practice we’ve honed for decades. This means always putting patients first while offering the most advanced, innovative treatments available and keeping people at the heart of everything we do.”

What Patients Can Expect

PHOA’s current locations at 2100 Webster Street, Suites 205 and 225, along with its phone number (415-923-3012) and office hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.), remain unchanged. Patients will continue to receive care from the teams they know, with pharmacy, infusion therapy and other key services now supported by Sutter’s comprehensive system. Existing PHOA patients will also transition to Sutter Health’s My Health Online portal, allowing them to schedule appointments, view test results, access medical records and communicate with their care team securely.

“Bringing PHOA into Sutter West Bay Medical Group gives patients a single front door to the personalized care they value, now with greater access to Sutter’s technology, resources and coordinated support,” said Meredith Hileman, CEO of Sutter West Bay Medical Group.

Advanced Treatments and Support Services

Sutter Health offers advanced cancer care across its CPMC campuses (Van Ness, Davies, Pacific Heights) in San Francisco, including GammaTile therapy and robotic procedures. Its state-of-the-art radiation oncology suite provides precise, technologically advanced treatment, while a full range of support services – including patient support groups and integrative medicine – addresses the physical and emotional impact of cancer.

“Across Sutter, we focus on building cancer programs that are not only high-quality but deeply connected, so patients can access the full spectrum of expertise and support wherever they start their journey,” said Rochelle Lonn, vice president of Sutter’s Cancer Service Line. “Bringing PHOA into our network strengthens that vision, helps close gaps in care and ensure that more patients receive seamless, comprehensive treatment close to home.”

Sutter Health contracts with most major insurance companies and is in network with Brown & Toland Physicians. Some patients may need updated referrals or authorizations. For more information, visit sutterhealth.org/health-plan and scroll to “Sutter West Bay Medical Group.”
