State-of-the-art facility to expand specialty care and serve growing Highway 50 Corridor communities

NORTHERN CALIF. — Sutter Health broke ground today on its new Folsom Care Complex, marking a significant investment in expanding access to innovative, high-quality healthcare for one of greater Sacramento’s fastest-growing communities.

The Sutter Folsom Care Complex, at 106,500 square feet and priced at $145 million, will include primary care, a wide range of specialty care services and a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center.

A highlight of the three-story care complex is a full-service Sutter Advanced Cancer Center, providing comprehensive cancer care from diagnosis to therapy. With construction underway, the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex is set to see patients in Fall 2027.

Sutter Health President & CEO Warner Thomas, center, was one of several Sutter leaders and local officials to break ground on the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex on Tuesday, June 11.

“We’re proud to expand access to high-quality primary and specialty care for the growing communities along the Highway 50 Corridor and surrounding areas,” said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “Building on our more than a century of caring for Northern Californians, and with our roots right here in Sacramento, today’s groundbreaking reflects our continued investment in the broader region. It’s the latest example of our systemwide commitment to deliver coordinated, convenient, world-class care close to home.”

Designed to streamline and enhance the patient experience, the Sutter Folsom Care Complex will also expand urgent care equipped with in-house imaging and lab services — creating an easy and more accessible one-stop-shop for non-emergency care. Sutter Health will also expand its primary care services at its nearby medical plaza location at 2575 East Bidwell St., just 1.5 miles away. The current urgent care services offered at the medical plaza will transition to the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex as part of the expansion.

At the heart of the new care complex will be a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center, where specialty physicians and general surgeons will perform same-day procedures. The facility is designed to improve efficiency and convenience for both patients and clinicians.

The Sutter Advanced Cancer Center is the most dramatic design element of the three-story complex. It will provide comprehensive cancer care for patients without having to drive to Sacramento or Roseville. Patients will receive infusion and radiation therapy in a serene environment overlooking the nearby Palladio and Sierra foothills.

When the Sutter Folsom Care Complex opens, it will bring together 27 new specialty and primary care physicians with four existing physicians, strengthening access to care provided for Folsom and nearby communities in the following areas:

  • Primary Care
  • Urgent Care
  • Heart & Vascular
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • Gastroenterology
  • Imaging
  • Lab
  • Neuroscience Services
  • Women’s Health Services
  • Cancer Services
  • Orthopedics
  • Pain Management
  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Surgery
  • Urology

“This project reflects Sutter Health’s vision to deliver the most connected, comprehensive care,” said Rachael McKinney, Sutter Health’s Greater Sacramento Division president. “By expanding specialty care close to home, we’re not just increasing access — we’re setting a higher standard for local healthcare. It’s a key step toward serving 1 million patients across our region by 2030.”

The new Sutter care complex in Folsom will feature a full-service Sutter Advanced Cancer Center, where those receiving treatments will have views of the Palladio and foothills.

In the greater Sacramento region, Sutter is building care centers in some of California’s fastest-growing cities. According to the state’s Finance Department, Folsom ranks as the 10th fastest-growing city this year, with nearby Rancho Cordova at No. 16. Conveniently located off Highway 50, the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex will also serve the growing region of El Dorado County, including El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Placerville, as well as rural communities in the surrounding areas.

The Sutter Folsom Care Complex is being built through a partnership between Sutter Health and Elliott Homes, which owns the property. The site is part of the larger Broadstone development that includes the Palladio shopping center, commercial offices and thousands of homes.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks an exciting step forward, and we’re honored to be part of it,” said Elliott Homes Vice President of Project Development Price Walker. “This is one of the few partnerships Elliott Homes has entered into, and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with Sutter Health on a project that will bring expanded, high-quality healthcare to our community. It’s a proud moment for all of us.”

With the addition of more specialty physicians to the campus, the goal is to provide increased access to surgical procedures and advanced care.

“As a physician, I’m excited to see the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex bring together primary, urgent and specialty care, including cancer, imaging and lab services in one integrated setting,” said Sutter Medical Group Chief Medical Officer Dr. Karun Grossman. “This coordination will help us diagnose and treat patients more efficiently, reduce delays and improve outcomes. I’m especially enthusiastic about bringing top specialists to Folsom so patients can receive expert cancer and other care close to where they live and work.”

The Sutter Folsom Care Complex represents another significant step in Sutter Health’s ongoing effort to bring care closer to home. As part of a broader plan to launch dozens of new care centers across Northern California, Sutter opened six care sites in 2024 and is growing that number nearly fourfold in 2025 with 23 care sites set to open this year and at least another 23 next year. The health system is strategically expanding its footprint to make it easier for patients to connect with both primary and specialty care. These new locations are designed to reduce travel times, expand access to essential services and ensure more timely, convenient care for the communities it serves. In addition to Folsom, in the Greater Sacramento region, Sutter is expanding access to primary and specialty care in the communities of Elk Grove and Roseville, as well as the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento.
