Milpitas residents now have greater access to high-quality primary care with the opening of Sutter Health’s newest care center at 100 N. Milpitas Blvd. Designed with patient comfort, accessibility, and staff well-being in mind, the site is now open and welcoming patients.
The center features 22 exam rooms across family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics. In addition, on-site imaging and laboratory services give patients the convenience of completing necessary tests and scans during the same visit. This co-location of services was an intentional design choice—particularly for internal medicine patients managing chronic conditions—so they can receive seamless, continuous care in one location.
Family medicine and pediatrics share a combined wing, allowing for flexible use of exam rooms depending on patient demand. The waiting area is larger, open, and inviting, reflecting expectations for increased patient volume and ensuring a comfortable experience from the moment patients arrive.
Inside each exam room, thoughtful details enhance safety, privacy, and accessibility. Sliding barn-style doors replace traditional swinging doors to maximize space and eliminate hazards. Rolling carts have replaced overhead cabinetry, making supplies more accessible for patients and staff of all abilities. In-room weighing scales ensure patient privacy during vitals collection, removing the need for centralized weighing stations.
“We wanted to design each space with the patient experience front and center,” said
Sutter’s Palo Alto Medical Foundation Greater Silicon Valley Division Regional Operations Director David Villanueva. “From the layout of our exam rooms to the calming colors throughout the building, every decision was made to make patients feel comfortable and cared for.”
The color palette, featuring cool and calming tones, reflects Sutter Health’s standard across new sites—helping patients feel at ease and creating an open, welcoming environment.
The new Milpitas location also prioritizes staff well-being. Employees have access to a dedicated lounge, a private courtyard for outdoor breaks, and a lactation room for breastfeeding staff members. The lactation space will also be available to patients during on-site consultations with lactation specialists.
Safety and security measures were built into the design. Badge-restricted access separates patient areas from staff areas, secures supply and medication rooms, and provides an added layer of privacy for patients receiving care.
For Villanueva, the opening of this site reflects Sutter Health’s commitment to meeting community needs—especially in areas where demand for accessible care has grown. “As a patient myself for nearly 20 years, I’ve always felt supported and cared for,” he said. “Now, we’re bringing that same level of service to Milpitas, a community we’ve never served before. It’s about showing we care and looking forward to building these relationships.”
Dr. Mat Hernandez, Greater Silicon Valley Chief Medical Officer for the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, echoed the importance of this expansion.
“This care center fulfills an important need for the residents of Milpitas and the greater Silicon Valley area by bringing more physicians and essential care services to this beautiful new location,” Hernandez said. “Milpitas is where some of the Bay Area’s brightest minds converge to innovate and create the technology that has become an intrinsic part of our daily lives. By establishing ourselves in this community, Sutter Health and the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group hope to contribute innovative, patient-centered primary care that improves the health and well-being of everyone it serves.”
With its thoughtful design, integrated services, and dedication to patient comfort, the new Milpitas care center represents a meaningful step in improving access to quality health care for the community.
