As many Sutter Health employees juggle home life with caring for the community at work, the not-for-profit network is reactivating its disaster relief fund to support employees, physicians and clinical staff who experience significant pandemic-induced hardship.

The Sutter Health Philanthropic Disaster Relief Fund was launched in 2017 to support staff during the devastating wildfires throughout Northern California. Now it is available to assist Sutter staff if they experience severe financial issues.

“Every day, we are inspired and humbled to hear the incredible stories of your teamwork, kindness and tireless efforts, as you care for and serve our patients during these very challenging times,” said Sarah Krevans, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “We want you to know that we are here to support you.”

The funds may be used for urgent needs such as child care and elder care costs as staff continue their important work caring for patients and supporting their communities, or for other financial obligations due to the current crisis, said Jill Ragsdale, senior vice president and Chief People & Culture Officer. To apply, Sutter employees can access the form through the MySutter intranet.

The Sutter Philanthropy team is managing the fund to honor the intent of donor gifts and meet the needs of employees, clinical staff and eligible physicians in crisis, now and in the future. Anyone may donate to the Sutter Health Philanthropic Disaster Relief Fund, and 100% of the donations will go directly into the fund to benefit Sutter staff in need. To donate, go to the online donation form here and select “Disaster Relief for Employees, Physicians and Clinical Staff” or call (916) 286-8448.

In addition, as a way to support front-line staff as they respond to the COVID-19 crisis, Sutter recently launched the Sutter Health Emergency Management System Lodging Initiative. This program provides free temporary lodging near our clinical sites for eligible workforce members working onsite where patient care is delivered. More can be found for Sutter staff on the SHEMS Lodging Initiative website or by emailing SHEMSLodging@sutterhealth.org.
