NORTHERN CALIF. — Sutter Health today announced that Kevin Manemann has been named chief operating officer, joining the not-for-profit integrated health system’s executive leadership team to advance operational performance, enhance system integration and support growth in the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to patients and communities across Northern California and the Central Coast.
Manemann will serve as dyad partner to Chief Physician Executive Dr. Todd Smith, co-leading Sutter’s clinical and nonclinical operations. Together, they will oversee system performance and work in close collaboration with physician and administrative leaders to help realize Sutter’s vision of a more comprehensive, coordinated and integrated care experience.
“In today’s dynamic health care environment, strong operational leadership is essential to delivering consistent, high-quality care and positioning Sutter Health for the future,” said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “Kevin brings a proven track record of operational excellence, physician engagement and people-centered leadership. His experience and values-driven approach make him an ideal leader to further advance our Destination 2030 strategy.”
As COO, Manemann will oversee Sutter’s division operating structure, system service lines, ambulatory surgery centers, nursing and Sutter Care at Home. He will work closely with division presidents, enterprise leaders and care teams to align local and system strategy, advance operational discipline, and support execution of Sutter’s ambulatory growth plans — expanding access, enhancing convenience and supporting more connected care.
“I’m honored to join Sutter Health and be part of a team so deeply committed to putting patients first,” said Manemann. “I look forward to partnering with leaders and clinicians across the system to build on the strong foundation already in place and further unify our efforts to deliver care that is more accessible, reliable and patient-centered.”
Manemann brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in large, mission-driven health systems. He most recently served as executive vice president and integration officer at City of Hope, where he oversaw integration and system operations for a $6 billion multistate comprehensive cancer system — successfully leading complex integrations, advancing standardization efforts, and delivering measurable improvements in quality, experience and financial performance.
Prior to City of Hope, Manemann held several senior roles at the country’s third-largest health system, Providence St. Joseph Health — including leading its $10 billion South Division (Northern and Southern California) and 10,000-physician enterprise — where he advanced system alignment and growth of regional clinical institutes, value-based care delivery, community health and strengthened physician leadership, operational discipline, governance and physician engagement.
His broad expertise includes hospital and ambulatory operations, digital transformation, physician enterprise development and shared services.
Manemann holds a Master of Arts in organizational leadership with an emphasis in servant leadership from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business.
He will assume his new role on Sept. 15.
