SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Today, Sutter Health Plus announced it received 4.5 out of 5 stars for quality and satisfaction from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The HMO is one of only three health plans in the state of California to achieve this rating for the NCQA Measurement Year 2020 Health Plan Ratings.

“Earning such an impressive star rating from NCQA demonstrates our commitment to focusing on delivering high-quality coverage and access to care for our members,” said Phil Jackson, CEO of Health Plan Partnerships & Products, who provides executive oversight for Sutter Health Plus.

NCQA is an independent, nonprofit organization that evaluates health plans on the quality of care members receive, how happy members are with their care and health plans’ efforts to keep improving. The NCQA Health Plan Ratings evaluate health plans on key quality areas of prevention, treatment and satisfaction. The ratings merge multiple quality indicators into a scale from one to five, with one on the lowest performance scale and five as the highest. While we are pleased with our results, we also acknowledge that quality is a never-ending journey.

Since earning Accreditation from NCQA in 2019, the Sutter Health Plus team and others from across the Sutter network remain focused on continuous quality improvement and measurement. This includes working to improve the continuity and coordination of care between network providers as well as with plan partners for vision, mental and behavioral health, and pharmacy benefits. The team tracks and trends issues that potentially impact the quality of care and service to members, noting and addressing areas of concern. Additionally, Sutter Health Plus also conducts member education and provider outreach to close gaps in care in areas of medication adherence, behavioral health access and preventive care.

“I’m proud of our team members who work tirelessly in the service of our members—especially during times when we’re all concerned about the health and wellbeing of the communities we are privileged to serve,” continued Phil. “I’m pleased to see their diligent efforts yield such a remarkable rating for quality and service.”

Today, Sutter Health Plus serves approximately 100,000 members from the Northern California foothills and the State Capital to Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz. Members enjoy convenient features through our integrated delivery system, such as access to virtual care, Sutter Walk-In Care, pharmacy home delivery, an online patient portal, and a single number to call for care and coverage needs.

NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations.
