Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center earned recognition this week as the only Healthgrades’ “triple crown” award recipient in California — earning honors in Patient Safety, Patient Experience and America’s 50 Best Hospitals — and one of just five hospitals in the nation to receive this distinction. This is the third consecutive year the medical center has earned this esteemed, “triple crown” designation.
Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) – Van Ness campus and Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital also earned the 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™, from Healthgrades, an online resource that provides consumers with information about physicians and hospitals.
This recognition, announced during National Hospital Week, reflects Sutter’s commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and puts all three hospitals in the top 15% nationally for patient experience.
“At Sutter, our patients are at the heart of everything we do, and teams across our system are committed to making our every aspect of our patients’ experience exceptional,” said Jennifer Bollinger, Sutter Health senior vice president and chief consumer & brand officer. “Congratulations to all three Sutter hospitals honored for patient experience. And a huge call out to Mills-Peninsula for achieving such a high standard of excellence for a third consecutive year. It’s truly an impressive accomplishment.”
Healthgrades evaluated more than 3,000 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January-December 2023. The organization applies a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, including staff communication, medication explanations, and cleanliness, to determine the Outstanding Patient Experience awarded hospitals.
“We commend these three Sutter hospitals for going above and beyond to ensure patients have the best possible experience during their hospital stay and recovery process,” said Debra Gradick, MD FACEP, senior physician consultant at Healthgrades. “Better patient experiences lead to better health outcomes, which is why it’s so important for patients to choose a hospital that excels at providing high quality, compassionate care.”
In addition to the recognition for patient experience, earlier in 2025, Mills-Peninsula was named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals for the 12th year in a row and CPMC- Van Ness Campus was named among America’s 250 Hospitals for the third consecutive year.
These honors reflect the dedication of Sutter’s physicians, nurses and staff to advancing high-quality, compassionate care and improving the health of the communities we serve.
