The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives named Sutter Health among its 2023 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recipients. Sutter was certified as a Level 8 organization (out of 10 levels possible) in both acute and ambulatory care, for the second year in a row.
“Expanding our digital solutions to streamline access and navigation for patients across all care settings is a key priority of our long-term strategy,” said Albert Chan, M.D., M.S., Sutter Health’s chief health information officer. “This recognition underscores the dedication and efforts of our teams in enhancing the patient experience and empowering clinicians with the tools they need to provide exceptional care.”
To arrive at the “Most Wired” list, CHIME surveyed more than 55,000 organizations on their adoption and integration of technology into patient care as well as how much impact technologies had on their healthcare delivery. Sutter Health ranked above peers in categories like analytics and data management population health, infrastructure and patient engagement.
Care Support that Transcends Walls
Digital innovation remains a core part of Sutter’s commitment to simplifying healthcare. Sutter aims to enhance care by making it more engaging and human via solutions that help patients stay connected with their provider teams. These efforts also can help patients manage their health more effectively. Recent advancements include:
- Scout by Sutter Health™ –A new app version just launched, which emphasizes resilience-building for youth to better manage their everyday mental health needs. Scout by Sutter Health™ is designed for teens and young adults ages 13-22. Its evidence-based tools, exercises and resources are conveniently available for young people in mobile-friendly and web platforms in English as well as Spanish. It also offers “champions”—usually family, friends or other identified supporters of the youth users—their own dedicated content streams. Scout gives champions the opportunity to learn what their young person is learning in parallel so they can better support them in their mental health journey. Scout by Sutter Health™ previously earned recognition from Fast Company’s 2021 Innovation by Design award and their 2021 World-Changing Ideas.
- Bedside Mobile – This digital tool helps empower and engage hospitalized patients by providing a bird’s-eye view of their hospital stay right from their personal smart device. Patients can see their medication regimens, their diagnostic or treatment schedules and even their care teams by name.
- Sutter also achieved great success with the launch of digital tools that enable the organization to proactively support new parents, like Care Companion–Healthy Pregnancy and Care Companion-New Baby digital care plans, which have simplified and personalized the pregnancy and newborn care experience. Tools like these complement the guidance parents receive from their OBs, pediatricians and family medicine providers.
“Digital technology should simplify the complexity of healthcare, making it more user-friendly and accessible,” said Laura Wilt, chief digital officer, Sutter Health. “I’m proud of our teams, not only for this recognition, but also for their unwavering commitment to transform healthcare delivery through digital innovation. Their efforts can help address the evolving needs of the diverse communities we serve.”
