Sutter’s Dr. Rob Nordgren Honored as Visionary Medical Leader in Bay Area

Dr. Rob Nordgren, Chief Medical Officer of Sutter Health’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay Division, has been honored in the San Francisco Business Times’ inaugural C-Suite Awards. The recognition celebrates trailblazing leaders who are shaping their organizations and making an impact across the Bay Area.

Under Dr. Nordgren’s leadership, Sutter Health’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay Division is advancing a more comprehensive healthcare ecosystem that brings high-quality, specialized care closer to home. He has strategically recruited top-tier physicians to elevate care quality across the division and is championing key initiatives like the development of Sutter’s Advanced Neuroscience Complex at California Pacific Medical Center’s Mission Bernal campus. He is also leading efforts to revitalize primary care and women’s health services in San Francisco. As the area’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Nordgren champions systemwide initiatives that promote operational excellence and improve healthcare outcomes, including in underserved areas of rural Northern California.

Dr. Nordgren’s career spans leadership roles at major health systems across the country. He previously served as Area CEO for Sutter Bay Medical Foundation and CEO of Sutter’s Palo Alto Medical Foundation, a group of 1,800 clinicians. His past roles include Executive Director of Child Health Services in New Hampshire, Associate Medical Director of Dartmouth Hitchcock Health, CEO of Northeast Medical Group, and Senior Vice President at Yale New Haven Health.

Dr. Nordgren holds a medical degree and a master’s in public health from Columbia University, along with a master’s in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
