CALIFORNIA — Today, Sutter Davis Hospital and Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz were named Top General Hospitals by The Leapfrog Group. The award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards hospitals in the nation can receive, recognizing exceptional efforts and achievements in patient safety and quality. A national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is known as the toughest standard-setters for healthcare safety and quality.
“This recognition as a Leapfrog Top General Hospital is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our entire team to providing exceptional care for our community,” said Michael Cureton, CEO of Sutter Davis Hospital. “Earning this prestigious distinction reflects our commitment to the highest standards of safety and quality, and it inspires us to continue delivering the excellent care our patients deserve. I’m incredibly proud of our staff and physicians for their role in achieving this national honor.”
Nearly 2,400 hospitals were considered for the award. Among those, Sutter Davis Hospital and Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz received a Top General distinction. A total of 134 Top Hospitals were selected and will be honored at the 2024 Leapfrog Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner tonight in Washington, D.C., including:
- 8 Top Children’s
- 36 Top General
- 15 Top Rural
- 75 Top Teaching
“We are honored that Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz was recognized as one of the Top General Hospitals,” said Dr. Kurt VandeVort, CEO of the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, a medical group of more than 2,000 physicians and advanced practice clinicians caring for PAMF patients. “This recognition reflects our unwavering mission to improve the lives of every patient through compassionate, comprehensive, and innovative care experiences. It also underscores the dedication of our incredible team of physicians, nurses, and staff, whose tireless efforts ensure that every individual who walks through our doors receives exceptional care. Together, we remain focused on advancing health and well-being for all.”
The quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in their category.
