Winter is around the corner, bringing an intensity to the respiratory illness season that has already begun. And whether last year’s “triple-demic” — marked by simultaneous flu, COVID and RSV infections — repeats itself or not, healthcare workers are already focused on the cold-weather crunch time that lies ahead of them. Hospitals in particular have started to gear up to provide more “critical care” — the treatments and techniques aimed at addressing pneumonia, bronchitis or other infections that can occur when a cold takes a serious turn.

It’s fitting then that Healthgrades, an online resource for information on hospital and doctor quality, chose to recognize hospitals for their commitment to critical care and more, as these institutions head into a challenging season. This week, Healthgrades announced the nation’s top-quality hospitals for specialty care, based on research that spanned 31 procedures and conditions and examined more than 4,500 facilities.

An impressive 10 Sutter hospital campuses received Specialty Excellence awards for critical care in the latest release. These awards mean that winners are among the top 10% of hospitals in the nation for providing critical care. More broadly Sutter is able to announce that 13 of its hospital campuses earned a Specialty Excellence award from Healthgrades, in one or more of 13 specialty services.

Additionally, nine Sutter hospital campuses were ranked among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for at least one specialty service. These achievements reflect Sutter’s commitment to consistently delivering the best care possible,” says Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “We celebrate the recognized hospitals for their steadfast dedication to providing high quality specialty care and achieving exceptional patient outcomes.”
