Community hospitals play a vital role within the broader healthcare landscape by providing accessible primary care, emergency services, continuity of care, specialized care, healthcare access for underserved populations, economic benefits and support for disaster response and public health preparedness. They are integral to the health and well-being of the communities they serve, embodying the principle of healthcare as a fundamental, equitable human right.
Recently, three Sutter Health hospitals were named “Great Community Hospitals” by Becker’s Hospital Review. Only eight other California hospitals made the list this year.
Recognized hospitals are known for clinical excellence, compassionate care, positive economic impact on their communities and more. Many of the hospitals listed have been honored as top-ranking by award agencies for their stellar patient outcomes and performance in specialty care services.
Sutter hospitals recognized include:
Sutter’s Eden Medical Center | Located in Castro Valley, the 130-bed hospital is the regional Level II trauma center for Southern Alameda County and features various centers of excellence, including neuroscience, orthopedics, rehabilitation, birthing center, imaging, stroke, cancer care and healing garden. The medical center first opened its doors in 1954 and throughout the decades has expanded its buildings, programs and services to meet the community’s healthcare needs. In 2023, Eden Medical Center was named among America’s Top 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, earned high-performing ratings by U.S. News & World Report and received five stars — the highest ranking possible — by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) overall hospital quality star ratings.
Sutter Delta Medical Center | Located in Antioch, the 141-bed Sutter Delta Medical Center is a patient-centered medical institution, showcasing its commitment to excellent patient care via innovative research initiatives, clinical trials, educational programs and cutting-edge technologies. The medical center has acquired state-of-the-art imaging equipment, implemented robotic-assisted surgery and launched telemedicine services to meet the ever-evolving needs of its community. Beyond medical treatment, patients are provided with comprehensive support services like financial counseling, social services and patient advocacy programs. The hospital also engages with the community through health education workshops, outreach events and collaborations with community organizations. In pursuit of environmental sustainability, Sutter Delta has implemented eco-friendly practices throughout its facilities, including energy-efficient systems, waste reduction programs and environmentally conscious purchasing decisions. For 2024, Sutter Delta received a 4-star CMS rating and was recognized as a high-performing hospital for Black maternal health by U.S. News & World Report.
Sutter Roseville Medical Center | With over 70 years of experience serving its community, Sutter Roseville Medical Center offers a comprehensive lineup of services and offerings ranging from primary and family care to maternity care to senior and geriatric care. A new expansion in 2020 allowed for a larger campus, updated emergency department, new intensive care unit, expanded cardiac care and a healing garden. As a teaching hospital with recent accreditations for graduate medical education in surgery and internal medicine, the medical center is continuously improving itself. Sutter Roseville Medical Center was recognized this year as a Best Hospital in the state by U.S. News & World Report, a 50 Best Hospital in the nation by Healthgrades and earned five-star ratings by CMS in 2023 for overall hospital quality star ratings, among other recognitions.
“In order to meet the growing need for healthcare services, Sutter is expanding access to serve more patients, building more than two dozen new care centers across Northern California and investing in new technology for a more seamless care experience,” shared Sutter Roseville Medical Center CEO Tammy Powers. “Right here in the Roseville community, our expansion efforts will offer 418 licensed beds with additional parking for patients and staff in 2025. Access will also be bolstered through our graduate medical education programs to foster the next generation of healthcare professionals who will continue to serve our community.”
