NORTHERN CALIF. — Six Sutter hospitals earned state and regional rankings in the latest edition of the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals report, with several recognized across multiple specialties — underscoring the California-based, not-for-profit health system’s ongoing commitment to high-quality patient care.
In addition, and on the heels of the system’s broader efforts to expand access to care across California, Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center in Modesto and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento were named Best Regional Hospitals for Community Access in their respective areas. U.S. News & World Report defines success in this category as ‘delivering high-quality care to patients across all socioeconomic groups within the community’.

Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation by U.S. News & World Report excelled at clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience. Sutter hospitals ranked among the “Best” in regional and state rankings include:
- Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center: #1 in the Modesto Metro Area, #60 (tied) in California, and Regionally Recognized in the Central Valley.
- Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento: #2 in the Sacramento Metro Area, #16 (tied) in California, and Regionally Recognized in the Northern Sierras.
- Sutter Roseville Medical Center: #3 in the Sacramento Metro Area, #23 (tied) in California, and Regionally Recognized in the Northern Sierras.
- Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center – Summit Campus: #5 in the San Francisco Metro Area and #35 (tied) in California.
- Sutter’s CPMC – Van Ness Campus: #6 (tied) in San Francisco Metro Area and #42 (tied) in California.
- Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center: #6 (tied) in the San Francisco Metro Area and #42 (tied) in California.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Specialty rankings are designed to help consumers determine, together in consultation with their physicians, which hospitals provide the best care for the most serious or complicated medical conditions and procedures, such as pancreatic cancer, or replacement of a heart valve in an elderly patient with multiple comorbidities. Three Sutter hospitals received “High Performing” recognitions in at least one specialty, putting them in the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated:

- Sutter’s CPMC – Van Ness Campus: High Performing in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery specialty
