Multispecialty facility expands access to urgent, primary and specialty care to Sacramento’s suburbs
NORTHERN CALIF. – Sutter Health President and CEO Warner Thomas today joined physicians, staff and community leaders to celebrate the opening of the new Sutter Arden Care Center, a multispecialty, multi-disciplinary facility designed to expand access to high-quality, convenient care for residents throughout the Sacramento region.
Strategically located in a vibrant community hub for shopping, entertainment and restaurants at 1651 Exposition Blvd., the three-story, 70,000-square-foot care center opens to patients on Monday, Dec. 8. The Sutter Arden Care Center brings together 56 clinicians under one roof, offering an integrated model of care, including urgent care, lab, imaging, primary care, and specialty services in dermatology, endocrinology and rheumatology.
“The Sutter Arden Care Center builds on Sutter Health’s momentum to expand access to convenient, nationally recognized care close to home,” said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “This facility reflects our commitment to serve the Sacramento region, recruit and retain top physicians, and make Sutter a destination for both practicing medicine and receiving care. Founded more than a century ago, here in Sacramento, we’re proud to continue to grow alongside our communities and deliver connected, seamless care to every patient we serve.”
The care center’s central location offers easy access from the Capital City Freeway and surrounding neighborhoods, including Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, East Sacramento, and other suburbs north and east of downtown Sacramento.
“As physicians, we understand how vital it is for patients to access the care they need, all in one place,” said Dr. Karun Grossman, chief medical officer of Sutter Medical Group. “The Sutter Arden Care Center brings that vision to life — combining primary and specialty care, urgent care with extended hours, imaging and lab services in one location. This multi-disciplinary model fosters collaboration among care teams and delivers a more connected, convenient experience for every patient who walks through our doors.”
The $76 million renovation began in January 2025, transforming an existing structure into a modern, patient-centered care environment equipped with advanced medical technology and designed to support seamless communication between care teams.
This project is part of Sutter Health’s broader expansion of patient services across the greater Sacramento region, which includes:
- Sutter Folsom Care Complex: A 106,500-square-foot, $145 million care complex currently under construction. It will feature primary and specialty care, an ambulatory surgery center and a full-service Sutter Advanced Cancer Center with infusion and radiation therapy. Close to 30 physicians will serve patients along the Highway 50 corridor and surrounding foothill communities.
- Sutter Elk Grove Care Center: A 56,000-square-foot, $67.8 million specialty care center under development on the Sutter Elk Grove Campus. The facility will house 22 new physicians and offer expanded services in cardiology, neurology, general surgery, OB/GYN, urology, dermatology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- Sutter Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Care Complex: A 120,000-square-foot facility planned for downtown Sacramento, designed to deliver nationally recognized musculoskeletal care. The care complex will offer comprehensive orthopedic and sports medicine services — including joint replacement, spine care, concussion treatment, physical therapy and more — to serve elite athletes, weekend warriors and everyday movers. This flagship destination will shape the future of orthopedic care in the region and expand access for patients across the urban core and surrounding communities.
- Sutter Urgent Care, Rocklin: Opened this summer, the new urgent care facility provides same-day access to care in this fast-growing community. It includes six exam rooms, a treatment room, general X-ray services, and onsite diagnostic imaging and lab testing — marking the first Sutter Urgent Care or Walk-In Care location in Rocklin.
- Sutter Roseville Medical Center Acute Care Expansion: Earlier this fall, the medical center added 12 ICU beds and 24 medical/surgical beds, increasing capacity to meet the needs of Roseville and South Placer County. With 418 licensed beds, Sutter Roseville will open a hybrid operating room by year-end.
“These projects reflect our strategic commitment to ensuring high-quality, coordinated care is available across the greater Sacramento region,” said Rachael McKinney, Sutter Health’s Greater Sacramento Division president. “Expanding care locations is just one part of the plan. We have recruited more than 400 new physicians to the area since 2023, built pathways for the next generation of caregivers, and enhanced digital health tools to meet the growing demand and improve the patient experience.”
The Sutter Arden Care Center marks another milestone in Sutter Health’s mission to bring and keep care close to home. As part of a broader plan to launch dozens of new care centers across Northern California, Sutter opened six care sites in 2024 and is on track to open 23 more by the end of 2025. These new locations are designed to reduce travel times, expand access to essential services and ensure more timely, convenient care for the communities Sutter serves.
