A new healthcare access point is coming to South San Jose as Sutter Health prepares to open a care center in Santa Teresa, expanding primary and specialty care access for residents across Greater Silicon Valley.

The new site will bring together physicians and advanced practice clinicians to serve the growing San Jose and Santa Teresa communities with a range of outpatient services. Dr. Kurt VandeVort, CEO of Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, said the center is designed to make care more convenient and accessible for patients closer to home.

“We’re opening our new site here in Santa Teresa, which is going to house some excellent new physicians and advanced practice clinicians to serve our community here in the San Jose-Santa Teresa area,” VandeVort said.

The care center will offer primary care services, including internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics, along with on-site lab and X-ray services. Leaders said bringing those services together in one location will reduce travel time for patients and improve the overall patient experience.

“We have excellent primary care services, including internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics, and we’ll have lab and X-ray services for our community, so people don’t have to drive as far to get services from Sutter Health,” said Dr. Mat Hernandez, chief medical officer for Sutter Health’s Greater Silicon Valley Division. “It’s going to be a great opportunity here.”

The expansion comes as healthcare systems across Silicon Valley work to meet growing demand for providers and services in rapidly growing communities. VandeVort said increasing access remains a critical priority across the region.

“We don’t have enough physicians or advanced practice clinicians to deliver care here in Silicon Valley,” he said. “Access is always a challenge. We want to make sure that we continue to put clinics in locations near the communities so patients can get care closer to where they live.”

In addition to primary care, the new center will help connect patients with nearby specialists across the Sutter Health network when advanced care is needed.

“We also know that while we have primary care services here, we have nearby specialty services as well,” VandeVort said. “If people need referrals to our specialists within the Sutter Health system, they can get those referrals nearby.”

The Santa Teresa care center will begin seeing patients on June 1, 2026.
