Helicopter transport is a critical component of modern emergency medicine. Every helicopter flight represents someone experiencing a medical emergency where time matters. Patients arrive at Mills Peninsula by helicopter for conditions such as stroke and cardiac emergencies.
Air transport is necessary when traffic conditions are a barrier to timely treatment, specialty services are not available locally, or patients require a higher level of care. For these patients and their families, minutes can make the difference.
At the same time, we recognize that helicopter operations affect our neighbors.
Over the past several years, we’ve worked closely with City of Burlingame staff and technical experts to better understand the concerns of our neighbors and evaluate ways to improve communication and transparency.
