DAVIS, Calif.— Traci Sheesley has been named the new chief nurse executive at Sutter Davis Hospital—the latest milestone in a nursing career spanning more than 20 years.

Sheesley’s leadership development started early as a registered nurse caring for patients inside intensive care units in the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley. Since then, she has been an integral part of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento for nearly two decades, growing in her leadership roles over time. Beginning in 2009, she served as the director overseeing the cardiac and neuro-surgical intensive care units, helping her teams achieve better patient outcomes through evidence-based practices. She advanced into the role of administrative director of hospital operations in 2016. As administrative director, she developed numerous patient care programs, strategized for patient care and visitor safety needs during COVID, enhanced systems to better support patient transfers and helped secure multiple nationally recognized quality certifications for stroke, heart attack and blood and marrow transplant.

“Traci is a dynamic healthcare leader. She has an incredible knack for developing programs and teams with a relentless focus on quality and best practices,” said Tammy Powers, chief administrative officer of Sutter Davis Hospital. “Her knowledge and patient-care roots will only help enhance the overall care experience we give our patients and families.”

“I’m so honored to join the Sutter Davis Hospital team, which has earned the admiration and trust of the community based on the high-quality care they offer close to home,” Sheesley said. “I look forward to helping support our staff and clinicians as we set to expand and enhance our care capabilities now and well into the future.”

Sheesley holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from California State University, Sacramento and a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from University of Phoenix. She begins as chief nurse executive July 11, 2022. The role was previously held by Powers, who was named the hospital’s chief administrative officer on April 4, 2022.
