The Van Ness campus at Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco was recognized as one of the nation’s best hospitals for cardiac care when Healthgrades announced its 2025 Quality Achievements. In addition, the Van Ness campus is ranked No. 5 in California for cardiac care, No. 3 in the state for coronary intervention procedures and No. 3 in the state for cardiology.

CPMC was named one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for cardiac care for the third year in a row, as was Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center – Summit Campus for the first time.

“Being recognized by Healthgrades for cardiac care is an honor and testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to patients,” said Dr. Michael Pham, chair of cardiology at CPMC. “This third year in a row of recognition reinforces the hospital’s reputation as an industry leader in providing high quality care, from diagnosis through treatment and recovery.”

Sutter Roseville Medical Center, which recently received national accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for a new cardiovascular disease medicine fellowship program for physicians, was also recognized with three five-star awards for cardiac care.

Several Sutter care centers were also recognized for outstanding cardiac care, placing the not-for-profit health system in the upper echelon of hospitals nationally for specialty care and reflecting the organization’s commitment to consistently delivering the best care possible.

“Our vision at Sutter Health includes being the most integrated and connected health system for getting people well and having them stay well, which includes cardiac care services,” said Cynthia Iverson, vice president of Heart and Vascular Service Line at Sutter. “Healthgrades’ recognition shows we are making that vision a reality, setting the bar nationally and statewide for clinical excellence in specialty care.”

Other Sutter facilities recognized by Healthgrades for excellence in cardiac care include:

  • Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center – Summit Campus (Oakland, Calif.) – One of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for cardiac care
  • Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center (Modesto, Calif.) – One of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for vascular surgery; No. 2 in California for vascular surgery
  • Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento – Specialty Excellence Award in vascular surgery

Sutter Health’s achievements are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades helps consumers find and select a hospital that excels in providing the care they need.
