SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Seventeen Sutter Health ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) have been listed among Newsweek magazine’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers for 2021 — and Palo Alto Medical Foundation Surgery Center, Palo Alto is ranked No. 1 in California!

Newsweek partnered with research firm Statista to survey ASC staff, physicians and leaders. Thousands of surgery centers were evaluated, but just the top 400 best centers in the 25 states with the most facilities made the list.

Newsweek’s experts and survey participants ranked ASCs based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations relative to in-state competition. They also took into account how well facilities were responding to the threat of COVID-19.

“I’m incredibly proud of this recognition from Newsweek, though I’m not surprised,” says Sutter Surgery Center Division CEO Terry Glubka. “Our ASCs’ clinicians and staff care deeply about the health and safety of their patients, and they work hard to provide them high quality, compassionate care.”

There are more than 800 ASCs in California, but just 80 of them were recognized by Newsweek. Of those 80, 17 of them (or 21 percent) are Sutter Surgery Center Division ASCs:

1. PAMF Surgery Center, Palo Alto
6. PAMF Surgery Center, Mountain View
9. PAMF Surgery Center, Fremont
15. Fort Sutter Surgery Center
20. PAMF Surgery Center, San Carlos
37. Sutter Santa Rosa Surgery & Endoscopy Center
38. Sutter North Bay Surgery Center
40. Sutter Sierra Surgery Center
43. Carlsbad Surgery Center
44. Capitol City Surgery Center
46. Sutter Auburn Surgery Center
67. Briggsmore Specialty Surgery Care Center
69. Otay Lakes Surgery Center
71. Sutter Roseville Endoscopy Center
76. Sutter Amador Surgery Center
