Sutter Health is celebrating a standout national recognition, with three hospitals honored for delivering exceptional patient experiences—and two among a small group nationwide to earn the rare “Triple Crown” distinction from Healthgrades, an online resource that provides consumers with information about physicians and hospitals.
Sutter’s Mills-Peninsula Medical Center and Sutter Roseville Medical Center have been named among a select group of hospitals nationwide to achieve Healthgrades’ “triple crown” distinction—recognizing excellence in patient safety, patient experience and clinical quality for 2026.
Sutter Health is the only health system in California earning this distinction and among only 16 hospitals in the nation to be recognized. Of those, only four hospitals also earned a place on Healthgrades’ America’s Best 50 Hospitals list—two of which are Sutter hospitals. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Mills-Peninsula has earned “triple crown.”
Sutter Amador Hospital also earned the 2026 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™, placing it among the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience.
Elevating the Experience of Care
Announced during National Hospital Week, these recognitions reflect Sutter’s deep commitment to delivering care that is not only clinically excellent—but compassionate, connected and centered on what matters most to patients.
“Across Sutter, teams are focused on listening, learning and responding to patient feedback, creating experiences where patients feel heard, informed and supported at every step of their care journey,” said Jennifer Bollinger, Sutter Health executive vice president and chief consumer & brand officer. “This work is grounded in meeting modern expectations, making it easier for patients to access care, get answers and stay connected across both digital and in-person settings. Recognition like the ‘Triple Crown’ distinction reflects the extraordinary dedication of our teams to deliver the highest quality, safest care through seamless experiences that strengthen trust and empower patients to play a more active role in their health.”
Healthgrades evaluated more than 3,000 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January-December 2024. The organization applies a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, including staff communication, medication explanations, and cleanliness, to determine the Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.
“Better patient experiences are correlated with better health outcomes, which is why patients should always strive to seek care at a facility with a clear dedication to high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Dr. Alana Biggers, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “As an Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipient, these Sutter hospitals sets the benchmark for patient experience nationwide, ensuring that every patient feels heard, empowered, and confident throughout the care journey.”
Earlier this year, Mills-Peninsula and Sutter Roseville were named America’s 50 Best Hospitals and both earned a spot on Healthgrades’ recent Patient Safety Excellence Awards.
These honors reflect the dedication of Sutter’s physicians, nurses and staff to advancing high-quality, compassionate care and improving the health of the communities we serve.
